A Recent Session at Dodge Park

There’s something so special about photographing families at Dodge Park. It’s one of those places that instantly feels peaceful - the soft tree‑lined paths, the open grassy areas, and the warm evening light that always seems to show up right when you need it. It’s easily one of my favorite locations in Metro Detroit, and this recent session reminded me exactly why.

I met the sweetest family for a beautiful session, and the light was absolutely beautiful. Soft, golden, and gentle - the kind of light that makes everything feel a little more magical.

🌿 Starting Slow and Easy

We began near the walking path, where the trees create the prettiest natural frame. I love starting sessions in calm spots like this because it helps everyone ease in, especially little ones who need a minute to warm up.

Their toddler held onto mom’s hand at first, taking everything in. Within minutes, he was giggling & exploring! Those are the moments I love most - the ones that happen naturally, without any prompting.

🌸 Letting Kids Lead the Way

One thing I always love is this: your kids don’t have to perform. They don’t have to smile on command or sit perfectly still. The best photos happen when we let them be themselves.

Those in‑between moments - the ones you don’t plan - are always the ones that end up being favorites.

We finished the session just walking back to the car, with everyone holding hands! Even though you cant see it in the picture, they had the biggest smiles.

It was simple. It was relaxed. It was real.

And that’s exactly what I want every session to feel like.
